Mary Jo Korona is a founding partner of Leclair Korona Vahey Cole LLP formed in 2007. Her business litigation practice focuses on a wide variety of commercial matters including contract claims and disputes among shareholders, partners and members of corporations, partnerships and limited liability companies as they relate to operational issues, buy- outs, dissolutions and breaches of fiduciary duties and employment covenants.
Mary Jo also advises and represents a variety of clients on employment matters as well as municipalities in the defense of tax certiorari and other proceedings challenging the decisions of local town, zoning and planning boards. Representative on-board clients include a local college, an international chemical company and a manufacturer of recreational vehicles.
Mary Jo has successfully represented clients in proceedings before state and federal courts, federal and state human rights agencies, and in mediations and arbitrations. She is certified to mediate cases filed in the United States District Court for the Western District of New York pursuant to the Court’s Plan for Alternative Dispute Resolution.
In 2016, Mary Jo was recognized with a Leader in Law Award, described as having “exceptional character, integrity, ethics and professional accomplishment.” Mary Jo is rated AV® by Martindale-Hubbell, designated a “Best Lawyer” in the category of Commercial Litigation, and is listed in Super Lawyers Business Edition for Business Litigation and in Super Lawyers of Upstate New York in the areas of Business Litigation and Employment law.
Mary Jo has authored articles on a variety of litigation topics published in the Daily Record. She has served on several panels in support of continuing legal education courses sponsored by the Monroe County Bar Association and the New York State Bar Association with respect to the Rules of Professional Conduct.
Mary Jo is an active member of the Monroe County Bar Association since 1993 and she previously served as Dean of the Academy of Law. Her past contributions to the local bar include service as a Trustee and as the Chair of the Law Practice Management Committee, the Ethics Committee and the Litigation Section. She is a Sustaining Member of the Greater Rochester Association for Women Attorneys, a member of New York State Bar Association’s Commercial Litigation Section and the National Association of College and University Attorneys.
Mary Jo has developed a diverse litigation practice and she counts among the many benefits the opportunities to work with interesting clients in the development and implementation of effective problem solving strategies.
Mary Jo resides in Penfield with her husband of 35 years, Matthew Korona, Esq. She loves to travel and in addition to Keuka Lake, her favorite destinations are Geneva, New York and Loma, Colorado, homes to daughter Katharine Korona and daughter and son-in-law, Stephanie and Erik Ebbesen.
